Are Kids Under the Age of 3 Still FREE at Disney World?

I get asked a lot by potential clients whether or not kids are "too young" to visit Disney.  Though an infant or toddler may not have the memories that an older child would about their first Disney visit – my motto is always "Bring them along they're FREE (ish).   One of Disney World's most treasured policies is that Kids UNDER the age of 3 (not 3 and UNDER) are able to get into the theme parks at no additional cost to the parents. However, when it comes to things like FastPasses, MagicBands and tickets it does raise some logistical questions.  Here at MickeyBlog, we'll do our best to answer them!

How Can I Prove That My Child is Under 3? Do I Need to Bring a Birth Certificate?

If you're travelling with a child under the age of 3 there's nothing to worry about.  Disney World does not require parents to show proof of age.  When arriving at the parks simply let the Cast Members know that you have a child under the age of three and they'll let them enter with you.  For those booking a Walt Disney World vacation package with a travel agent, over the phone or online you enter the ages for all of your children at the time you book. However, you aren't required to present any further information when arriving at the parks.

Will My Toddler Get a MagicBand?

As you know, MagicBands are a perk for guest staying onsite at a Walt Disney World resort and serve as your admission ticket, your room key and hold other vital information like FastPasses and dining plan info.  When you book a Walt Disney World vacation package, it is required that you report ALL of the guests travelling with you even if they are under the age of three. Therefore when customizing bands, you will have the option of making one up for your tiny tot. However, since they technically don't have a ticket it is NOT required that they wear their band to enter the parks.

Do I Need to Include My Child That is Under 3 When Making FastPass Reservations?

No. For those rides without height restrictions, it is simply assumed that your child will be riding with you. Therefore they fall under the FastPass reservations of the parent or guardian visiting with them.   If you are travelling with a child under the age of 3 and go to make your FastPass reservation Disney will not even give you the option of including them. An error message will come up asking you to take them off the reservation. But don't worry they'll be covered.  And in the event that there are height restrictions on a ride consider taking advantage of Disney's Rider Switch system!

We Are Getting the Disney Dining Plan. Do I Have To Pay For One For My Under 3 Child?

When it comes to the Disney dining package a child must be 3 or older to get the plan.  Since children under the age of three get into the park for FREE, there are no park tickets so Disney really doesn't have a full "reservation" to link the dining plan to.  For this reason, it is just assumed that toddlers have smaller appetites and will be sharing items off the plates of other family members.  If your child has a hearty appetite try and schedule in some buffet meals where there is no charge to make them up a plate!  At quick-service eateries, you always have the option of paying out of pocket for child-sized entrees.

So Should I Included My Toddler In the Number of Guests When Making a Dining Reservation?

Yes! This is where things are a little confusing. You DO need to include your Under3 when reserving a spot for table service dining reservations.  As mentioned above, there's no charge for them to dine but the restaurants do need to be registered as being present for reasons of capacity and fire safety.  Disney does ask for an exact headcount of everyone dining so include them even if there won't be a charge for them joining you!
